CURRENT MOON |
The seventh new moon crescent of the Aviv year marks the annual appointed Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah). The first sighting was reported from Potchefstroom along with reports from Johannesburg in South Africa on Friday evening, September 6th at 6:15 local time (GMT +2) along with various locations westward.
Sighting of the moon specifically from Israel did not occur until the following evening, September 7th.
Happy Yom Teruah!
One important observation to take note: the Hebrew calendar began the seventh month on Wednesday evening, September 4th when the moon was still waning. In Israel's timezone, no form of a new moon (conjunction or otherwise) was possible until after the noon hour on the traditional first day of the month making the calculated Hebrew calendar (using the calculated Molad) extremely early this year and missing its intended target altogether (no matter how you translate the phrase "new moon").

The following new moon crescent will be the 8th month and is possible to be reported in the Southern hemisphere of the Americas on Saturday evening, October 5th with the best results possible in Hawaii. However, given the limited geography, it is more likely that there will be no reports until the following day along with Israel.

Expected Observation Dates of Biblical Festivals 2013:
|
For 2013, Aviv barley was found in early March (within Israel or the Fertile Crescent) with the first confirmed new moon crescent sighted in the region of Nigeria & Morocco on Tuesday evening, March 12th. Therefore, no intercalary 13th month was observed. This means the Annual Festival Dates will be expected as follows (all days begin at sundown the evening before dates listed):
The Seventh New Moon of 2013, first seen in South Africa on Friday evening, September 6th, marked the arrival of the Fall Festivals on the following dates for all locations west of, and including, South Africa (all days begin at sundown the evening before dates listed):
For those projecting to 2014, it is expected that the next wave of crops will not be Aviv in the Promised Land region until the new moon in late March (which is expected on the evening of March 31st starting in Israel) for a total of 13 months observed this current year. If so, this would place the first day of the first month on April 1, 2014. Stay tuned for Aviv reports for any confirmations.
If you would like to provide future reports, I welcome anyone to serve as witnesses to the sighting of the new moon crescent by submitting your sighting via e-mail. Together, as Yah's people, we can all be of one accord with the blowing of a trumpet to communicate to all of His people when the new moon has occurred (Numbers 10:10). We also attempt to post our own sightings and in a timely manner.
