| Crescent Moon Sighting Report: | Seventh Biblical Month / September-October 2012 |

CURRENT MOON |
The seventh new moon of the year marks the all-important Seventh Biblical Month that begins with Yom Teruah (Day of Trumpets) or the Day of Shouting! The practice of searching for the visible New Moon has further significance as it begins the Biblical Holy Day.
This year, the new moon was first expected to be visible in the Southern Atlantic Ocean along with areas in the southern tip of Chile and Argentina Sunday evening, September 16th. However, no reports were made known. The first confirmed report has been made on Monday, September 17th from Malaysia with additional notifications from Australia. This means that the Seventh Month will begin for nearly all regions worldwide starting at sundown on Monday, September 17th (which is 30 days from the previous Global Trumpet Call).
For individuals that prefer to delay a Trumpet Call until the New Moon is visible within the land of Israel, the New Moon was also first reported by several witnesses broadcasting live from Mount Yoash on Monday evening with initial results posted on Facebook by Nehemia Gordon (administrator of Karaite Korner) at 6:54pm Israel time with others reporting as early as 6:48pm.

The next new moon will begin the 8th Biblical Month. The earliest sighting expected would be in Australia on Tuesday evening, 16th October.
For Israel-based observation, sighting of the moon may be too difficult and will most likely be on Wednesday evening, 17th October.

This year, the Aviv barley harvest reports from the Fertile Crescent region around Israel have been reported in the 12th month making the next new moon, reported on the evening of March 23, 2012 (starting in Israel westward), the start of the new year. There was no need for an additional 13th month. This placed the Festival Dates as follows (all dates listed began at sundown the evening before; may vary based upon visual confirmation/trumpet call of the crescent moon):
The Seventh New Moon of 2012 was not reported, as expected, from South America on the evening of September 16th. First reports of the new moon were the following day from Australia and Malaysia. This means nearly all locations worldwide (including Israel) will begin the Seventh Month on Monday evening, September 17th based on a Global Trumpet Call.
